Debate team third in country

March 25th, 2013

Central Foundation has jumped over ten places to find themselves placed third in the national Debate Mate league. The school recently hosted the final league portion of the competition before it moves into a knockout tournament regionally and then nationally.

Several schools came to take advantage of our facilities, with debates taking place in numerous rooms throughout the afternoon. The motion—This House believes that performance enhancing drugs should be allowed in professional sport—provided a platform for well-reasoned and complex arguments.

Later on, a surprise secondary motion—This house believes UK police should be armed—was revealed to the students in order for them to debate without preparation, drawing passionate responses on the topical subject.

Having finished so high in the table, the team will go on to compete in a regional knockout tournament this Wednesday hosted by LSE and seek to gain qualification to the national final later on this year.

More pictures can be found in our gallery and the league table can be viewed on the DebateMate website.
