Last week Central Foundation won the London final of the Young Consumers of the Year Award, organised by the Trading Standards Institute.

As in the past three years, Central Foundation outperformed all-comers from Islington at the local competition held in Arsenal FC’s Emirates Stadium. The school was invited to the O2 Arena where a number of high profile sponsors support the nationally run competition. Ms Begum entered a team of four boys from Year 10. These students are George Riley, Taief Miah, Zaheer Alam and Fuad Ganjiyev, with Aiden Ha in reserve.

The competition, open to teams of four 14-17 year-olds, tests students on their awareness of  consumer law, food and health, safety, credit and the European dimension. At a time when trading standards are making national front page news, the competition could not be more relevant and topical.

The team will be heading to Brighton next for the national finals for the second time in four years.
