With the first England Test series of the summer completed, the school’s cricket teams have also made positive progress in the season with a number of 14 over matches at two age levels. The impact of Bunbury Cricket Club’s donation of nets, pads and bats to the school has raised the quality of our game.

The Central Foundation Boys’ School Under 15 cricket team opened the season against Regents Park School.

In a closely met contest, Regents Park won the 14 over match by a margin of only 13 runs.  Good bowling restricted Regents Park to 100-6, with Hussein Abdul taking two wickets for only nine runs. Sufian Miah also shined with the bat, scoring nearly a third of the team’s total of 87-9 and saw out the innings ending on 28 not out.

Lower down in the school, the Central Foundation Boys’ School Under 13 team has already engaged in a number of matches, both tournament and league. They advanced to the second round of their knockout tournament as the Petchey Academy could not organise a full team. They advance to play Stepney Green in the next round.

Their league campaign had a less impressive start, after being bowled out for 55 runs in only 17 overs. Despite Darrell Gerald taking three wickets, St Paul’s School still racked up enough runs to comfortably win the match. Central Foundation’s Under 13s bounced back with a win over Mossbourne Academy; after setting a target of 75-2, David Adewale produced a fine effort in the field by taking two catches in the cover position and making two run outs to restrict Mossbourne to 45 all out.

The team followed this up with an even more clinical victory, this time against Morpeth School. Year 7′s Hamish McMillan opened with 25 runs to put the team on target for 90-2. Central Foundation were in no danger of losing as they restricted Morpeth to 14 runs all out, with the impressive bowling illustrated by Darrell Gerald taking a hat-trick of wickets in the fourth over.
