In the first week of February, our Year 12 Geography students explored, collected and analysed data in the picturesque Lake District. The students immersed themselves in data collection amidst the stunning backdrop of Blencathra Field Studies Centre.
On Wednesday 6th March, we were delighted to invite Imani McDermott Graham to our Year 13 Apprenticeship Workshop series as a representative of Balfour Beatty.
On Wednesday 6th March, AIB (Allied Irish Bank) joined our Year 13s for their last careers-focused assembly of the year before they move their focus primarily to exam preparation.
On Monday 4th March, 100 Year 9 students took part in an exciting trip to Shakespeare’s original Globe theatre to watch a performance of Romeo and Juliet.
The second round of the national Urban Debate League competition was hosted at Clapton Girls Academy on Thursday 29th February. After the first round where Central Foundation Boys' School ranked 6th in the UK, our three debating teams went into Round 2 in good spirits following 5 wins in the first round.
On the 4th of March, the Art department took a group of budding year 9 artists to the Tate Modern for the afternoon. The pupils visited the 'Capturing the Moment' exhibition and the permanent collections.
On Friday 8th March, our very own Ms Benavent, who teaches our students in the Music Department performed a programme of pieces by Felix Mendelssohn, accompanied by Salome Jordania (pianist) and Vasco Ferrão (cellist).
In our assemblies last week, we reflected on the importance of independent reading for pleasure ahead of this year’s World Book Day. Directors of Learning shared their book recommendations and paid tribute to books which had been influential in their lives.
Over the past month, we have completed an Interhouse Rowing Tournament for all students in Year’s 7, 8 & 9. Students in Year 7 rowed as far as they could in 2 minutes, in Year 8 for 3 minutes and in Year 9 for 4 minutes. Every metre counted towards the overall Interhouse standings!
We are delighted to announce that our Year 11 students made it through to the finals of the Ambassador’s debate at the US Embassy on Wednesday 28th February.
