The Year 9 football team have the chance to win the Islington & Camden Cup for the second time

March has been a successful month for Central Foundation in their sporting endeavours.

The Key Stage 3 handball team placed second in a round-robin league competing against other schools across Islington & Camden. Although the school were runners up based on points, they also had the added bonus of defeating the overall champions.

The Year 11 football team have secured a place for themselves in the final of the Islington & Camden Cup. By defeating Holloway School 2-0, with a goal in either half from Lorenzo and Kevin, they have the opportunity to go into their GCSE exams as football champions.

The Year 9 football team have also made it to the Islington & Camden Cup final for their age bracket. Their semi-final was a much more cagey affair against St Aloysius with Marley scoring the game’s only goal in the 13th minute. This result gives them the chance to win the trophy they last held in Year 7.

Finally, the Key Stage 3 basketball team also entered a round-robin league against Islington & Camden schools gaining third place in the tournament.

Abilities ranged from first-time skiiers to three-year veterans

During the February half term, some 40 pupils travelled to Austria to enjoy a week of skiing in the Alps.

39 pupils from Years 7, 8 and 9 took part in the annual Ski Club trip in the middle of February, with staff and pupils departing the school on the Friday night after school broke up for the half term holidays. They travelled through the night by coach and ferry to Austria, arriving in the Ziller Valley section of the Alps mountain range by midday Saturday.

During the week away, the pupils were split into groups based on their previous experience, with newcomers taught how to ski. More experienced skiiers took to the slopes and challenged themselves on different terrains. While they spent the days skiing, in the evening the hotel offered other activities such as indoor football and basketball pitches.

After just under a week in Austria, the group travelled back to England during the weekend before the second half term commenced.
