About the course
In Years 7 & 8, RE is taught as a block of cross-curricular days with the themes of Pilgrimage and Holy books. Links are made between RE and a diverse range of subjects that include English, Art, Drama, Food Tech and History. Students also have the opportunity to listen to guest speakers and visit places of interest including cathedrals, synagogues and mosques.
In Year 9 RE is taught in one timetabled lesson per week. It is taught in accordance to National Curriculum guidelines to develop the knowledge and skills students need to be successful in RE at GCSE level, and also to be able to improve understanding and community cohesion in a religiously and ethnically diverse school wider society.
What they will learn
Topics taught include:
There is a strong focus on culture, diversity and society throughout the study of these different topics. Students in Year 9 are also introduced to GCSE topics in advance of beginning the course in Year 10.
How it will be assessed
Students are assessed each half term by a range of different tasks designed to develop both their research and communication skills. There is a strong emphasis on communication and literacy and by Year 9 students are expected to be able to write reasoned arguments in that take into account different points of view.

About the course
This course is the study of ultimate or ‘big’ questions such as ‘Does God exist?’, ‘What is God like? ’and ‘What happens when we die?’
