How to sing and play a variety of instruments in a number of performance contexts.
How to listen to and talk about music from a range of places and times.

How it will be assessed
On a half-termly basis against the department’s 1-9 assessment grid.

About the course
A combination of performance, composition and listening-based studies.

What they will learn
Students will learn about their chosen instrument and how to perform as a soloist. They will also develop skills performing as part of an ensemble.
Students will develop skills in composition using a variety of techniques through traditional and ICT-based approaches to composing.
Through listening to a wide variety of western and non-western music, students will learn to identify the features of specific styles and genres.

How it will be assessed
Coursework (60%), Listening Exam (40%)
