About the course
At GCSE, this course will help students to gain a valuable insight into the way the media works and help them develop appreciation and critical understanding of the media and its role in their daily lives.

What they will learn
They will study a range of media texts from print advertisements to music promotion and film trailers and will be given the opportunity to be creative through production skills to support theoretical knowledge.

How it will be assessed
30% Coursework (Practical production)
70% Final examination based around existing media institutions and issues related to contemporary media practice .

About the course
Candidates will investigate the media in order to reach an understanding and basic evaluation of how meanings and responses are created. As the course progresses candidates are encouraged to examine the media in a less formulaic ways and demonstrate, develop and formulate their understanding of the media and its influential role in today’s society.

What they will learn
How to deconstruct all media texts from films to newspapers, media theory and current debates and practical skills in video production and photoshop.

How it will be assessed
70% Examination; 30% Coursework (Practical production)
