Young Chef of the Year

March 5th, 2018

Cairo's finalist dessert entry

Before half term, three pupils were invited to take part in the Young Chef of the Year competition at St Albans in Hertfordshire.

The three boys had won a competition held at school and then submitted their creations by photograph to Oaklands College. Their ingenuity was rewarded with an invitation to compete with 20 other finalists for the title of Young Chef of the Year.

The boys and their teacher, Ms McDougall, travelled to St Albans with their ingredients and arrived ready to prepare their signature dishes in a professional kitchen. They could choose either a main course or dessert plate to prepare in an hour and serve to a panel of three judges.

Year 10′s Cairo prepared a deconstructed passion fruit cheesecake which was commended for its flavours. He placed in the finals, was awarded £25 and a certificate and was offered work experience as a chef.
