    Year 12 Work Placements

    April 4th, 2017

Slaughter & May employees helping Year 12s with their applications

As well as providing a world class education in the classroom, Central Foundation is dedicated to ensuring every pupil who leaves has a pathway to employment or further education through the Central Futures team.

On 10th January, Slaughter and May held a information session for Year 12 students about their work placement opportunities. 25 students attended the session to discover what experience is available to them over the Easter and summer holidays, how they can apply and how it can give them an advantage in both applying to universities and gaining employment. Slaughter and May are a leading international law firm who have worked closely with the school for a number of years.

The information sessions saw the 25 students rotate between tables of professionals from various teams such as legal, accounts, human resources, IT, business development and commercial/facilities to hear more about the placement roles on offer and ask questions. All interested students will have the opportunity to take part in a CV workshop as well as an interview skills workshop before applying for roles with a cover letter and CV. The recruitment process and placement is designed to help students develop the skills and experience they need to access both university and employment, and make a success of the opportunity.

Pupils from Years 8-11 at the top of the Silvretta Alps

During the half term, over 40 pupils were taken to Austria to spend the week in the Alps skiing.

The annual Ski Club trip took place in the middle of February, with staff and pupils departing the school on the Friday night after school broke up for the half term holidays. They travelled through the night by coach and ferry to Austria, arriving in the Silvretta section of the Alps mountain range by midday Saturday.

During the week away, the pupils were split into beginner, intermediate and advanced groups so that their activities could match the skill level. While they spent the days skiing, in the evening the hotel offered other activities such as football to keep them occupied.

After just under a week in Austria, the group departed on Friday to make it home in time for Saturday evening.

More images and videos from the trip are available on the PE Department’s Twitter account,

Two teams of four Year 11 mathematicians visited Langdon Park School in Poplar to take part in the competition. There were four rounds of competition testing, comprehension, problem-solving, numerical and teamwork skills, respectively.

The school’s A Team took bronze, coming third out of all the schools with the B Team placing fifth.
