The Year 8 football team defended their Islington & Camden Cup in clinical fashion on Wednesday 20th April.
The fixture became a rematch of last year’s final, with Central Foundation taking on St Aloysius once again in the last stage. However, whereas that game was a tense affair with Shaun Barwuah clinching a 2-1 victory in the dying seconds of the game, this year there was little chance of anything other than a Central Foundation win.
The first goal came from a set piece as Boulem Khadri tapped the ball into the net following a corner. Lorenzo Picchi managed to assist himself when he caught the rebound from his own shot to give the team a comfortable 2-0 lead. Kevin Gonzalez, who has been valuable to the team in setting up a number of goals throughout the campaign, put himself on the score sheet with an impressive 35 yard free kick.
After being taken down in the box, Shaun Barwuah gave the team an unassailable four-goal lead with a penalty and quickly followed it with another goal, rebounding from his own shot.
With one-hand on the trophy, captain Nathan Tshola sailed the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out with a strike that would have been impossible to stop. Finally Shaun completed his hat-trick, and the victory with a volley provided again by Kevin.
The strong offensive was backed up by Babatunde Oke in goal who stopped a number of shots to ensure a clean sheet.
The Year 8s reached the final with a number of high scoring games. In the quarter final they beat City of London Academy 9-1 and were similarly dominant against Highbury Grove with a 7-1 win.
