Imperial War Museum

A small group discover how cramped bunkers in the trenches could be

Towards the end of September, a Year 8 group of English pupils visited the Imperial War Museum.

During the first term, the Year 8 group will be reading and analysing Private Peaceful in their English lessons. The novel, written by Michael Morpungo who had recent success with stage and screen adaptations of his novel War Horse, is set in the trenches of the First World War. Alongside this novel, they will be comparing and contrasting a variety of war poetry.

The visit to the Imperial War Museum helped contextualise the First World War by allowing the boys to see life-sized tanks and planes used in the conflict, as well as the layout of the French battlefields and a thorough understanding of the experiences of soldiers in the trenches.

BTEC Business

September 25th, 2015

Recently, the Sixth Form Business BTEC group spent the day at global consulting group Oliver Wyman.

During their day long visit, the Sixth Form students learnt about presentation skills, participated in a consulting brief and presented to senior figures at the consulting firm. The Managing Partner at the London office, Jonathan Keane, spoke highly about the students’ intellect, astuteness and politeness.

One student, Bradley Hopkins, delivered a well thought through presentation on how the media company SBTV could expand their core business to a senior consultant who noted how impressed he was with Bradley’s leadership skills and command of the content which he delivered. The day gave all of the pupils an insight into daily life in the world of business and the many different career choices that the BTEC Business course opens up to them.
