On Saturday 11th January, Central Foundation’s debaters once again showed that they are the benchmark of not only their own age group, but those above it, as they put on a tremendous showing during a weekend debating tournament.
The tournament, held at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, University of London) saw 184 students, including members of the England debating squad and many of the world’s top public schools such as Eton, battle it out in a day long affair. Although the majority of the entrants were Sixth Formers studying for their A levels, Year 11′s Omar Adam and Taief Miah made it into the finals, ranking them in the top eight of the 184 speakers present on the day.
‘This House would cast a female as the next James Bond’ was the final motion, with Omar and Taief channelling their knowledge of the film industry and third wave feminism in their articulate arguments. Despite beating Eton earlier in the day, Central Foundation were on the runner-up side in the final, but their performance made it known that they are national contenders.
