After a day-long DebateMate event at University College London, the school’s debate team has been crowned London Champions and have qualified for the national final later on this year.
Four teams of four were entered into the competition by Central Foundation, with all four picking up at least one win in their three debates on subjects including nuclear proliferation, imprisonment of violent criminals and coverage of women’s and men’s sport.
Two teams won all three rounds, with a points system meaning the team of George Riley, Omar Adam, George Benson and Derek Nightingale were entered into the final round. They debated against Grieg City Academy on the subject of labour laws in developing countries and after a heated exchange, Central Foundation were announced as winners and London Champions.
